message from Garth

Dad sent this message to me this morning and asked that I post it here for everyone to read.

It is a wonderful but uncomfortable burden to be the recipient of such an overwhelming outpouring of love and support from all of you. Words are inadequate to express the appreciation I have and the love and support I feel because of all of you.To you who are friends and relatives, your friendship and association is a treasured gift. To those who don’t know me but helped because they knew my family or just wanted help out, I hope that God will touch your heart that you will feel my love and appreciation and more importantly God's love for you. Thank You All. Garth Abbott

P.S
I recently went to Albuquerque to get a pet and cat scan on a special machine. The radiologist was amazed given the aggressive nature of this type of cancer that it had not spread beyond one lymph node and the left breast area. This great news comes because of priesthood blessings and the prayers of a multitude of good and faithful people. Dr. Wu, my oncologist, upon reviewing the reports from UNM radiology said that the one lymph node is probably two or three nodes fused together by a tumor because the tumor there is so large. He said that I will have to complete the 6 chemo sessions, have a mastectomy and a left lymph dissection, followed by radiation treatment and then pill therapy for 5 years.

Garth,
When Hans and I were engaged, you were our bishop in the singles ward. We were having a few complications with family and setting a date and the best advice you ever gave us was, "Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead!"
Good luck Garth and full speed ahead to you too.
