I always do my own taxes, because I have trouble trusting others to get me as much of a return (just a little case of I-have-to-do-everything-myself-to-get-it-done-right syndrome). :)
But, since I have no formal training in tax preparation, I have always wondered, in the back of my mind, if I am missing out on some return because I don't know enough of what I can deduct or claim in certain categories. Does that make sense?
Anyway, I am considering bidding on this item. But, before doing so, I was wondering how you would feel if you did my taxes and I did my taxes separately. And, if we came up with different numbers, we could sit down and you could teach me the reasons for the differences?
I know this would be a little more work for you than just preparing someones taxes and submitting them, but it would greatly help me understand if I'm missing anything or if I'm doing great doing my own taxes.
Also, I have lived half this year in Arizona and half in Utah. I know NV doesn't have state taxes, so I'm assuming you were just offering to do Federal taxes. Is that correct? Or are you also offering to do state taxes?
Finally, I know I should already know the answer to this question, but, since I always do my own taxes, I don't. How much does it generally cost to have a professional do your taxes?

I definately don't mind us both doing the taxes to see what differences we see or what is the same. I also do state taxes and I can prepare those for you as well. Generally places like H and R block will charge quite a bit. They usually start at $50 and go up from there. Some places are less, but I try to stay fair and reasonable. For a return that is a 1040, itemized deductions, and maybe 2 additional forms, I charge $80. For the same thing at H&R block or Jackson hewitt it is usually anywhere from $150 to $200.
